Rise Of Nepotism In Schools

Adro is a student studying in high school. He is smart, intelligent and his intellectual skills have no bounds. He is enthusiastic in class as well as in the sports field and never disappoints his teachers in scoring marks. He is someone each and every school would need. But unluckily, he is given no credit or any leadership position in school.

While at the other hand, there is Tim. He too studies in the same class of Adro, but is weak in studies, in comparison to his class. Neither can he play any sport well nor has knowledge on any extracurricular activities. The only plus point in him is that he is a good communicator.

But surprisingly, the school tends to select Tim over Adro in cases of sports or any clubs that involves extracurricular activities. Why is that so? You may ask. The answer may sound obnoxious or rather absurd. But the reason is that Tim’s mother happens to be a teacher in that particular school. Due to her presence, the other teachers, who is supposedly her colleague goes in Tim’s favour or is influenced to do so.

Till today, Nepotism has always been discussed in various industries. Mostly the cinema industry as that’s what we ought to know easily. But no one has ever thought about how nepotism has been practiced in schools for years together and how this could have an everlasting effect on students.

This story is just a paradigm on how in each and every school around the world, we ought to miss talented students. The difficulties these type of students face to make mark for themselves and also control their emotions over those students who portray temerity as they get to represent their school with the help of their parent(s) influence or contacts.

Discussing about the Adro and Tim story, people start to raise questions such as, “So do you mean to say that teacher’s children should never prosper?” or the point of view is unidirectional. But what people fail to understand is the fact that there are teachers, who use their discretionary powers to see to the fact that their child can flourish and contribute to the school in numerous ways.

Well, it’s a good motive to keep in mind. But it does not seem right if you deprive the chance of somebody else that is more deserving. When it is wrong to blame also the staff’s children, who go on to shine the name of their school through their hard work, people who achieve so by being palely with the teachers and opting unethical means.

The rise of nepotism in schools, and that too among children is a serious as well as a daunting affair as this could have a great influence in the careers of students. College opportunities as well as scholarships can be denied to students who have the calibre to get to the zenith of their field, but cannot do so as they were denied of opportunities since their schooldays and the lack of confidence in them would cause them to fail.

This virus has already spread a long way and before this gets contiguous, we need to eradicate it. To observe an equal amount of opportunities given to each and every student, you never know as someone from that group could step forward to change the world.
